The Nanhui branch line of Shanghai’s third new municipal railway has officially started construction. In the future, it will take 15 minutes from Lingang to Pudong Hub and 60 minutes to Hongqiao Hub. The Nanhui branch line project is an important part of the Shanghai urban railway network. The line starts from Pudong Hub (Pudong Airport T3 Terminal Station and Shanghai East Railway Station) in the north, travels along Lianggang Avenue, Dongda Highway and Qiaojiang Road, and goes to the central area of Lingang Special Area in the south. It mainly passes through Zhuqiao Town, Laogang Town, Lingang Special Area Comprehensive Industrial Area and Dishui Lake Core Area in Pudong.
The total length of the line is 34.86 kilometers. The main line is 27.88 kilometers long, including the underground section of 7.29 kilometers, the elevated section of 19.65 kilometers, the subgrade section of 0.94 kilometers, and the bridge-tunnel ratio is 96.6%. The branch line is 6.98 kilometers long, of which the elevated section is 6.36 kilometers long and the roadbed section is 0.62 kilometers long, and the bridge ratio is 91.1%.
There are 4 new stations on the line (Xiayan Road Station, Dongda Highway Station, Lingang Comprehensive Area Station, Lingang Open Area Station), and 2 railroad stations (T3 Terminal Station, Shanghai East Station). The average distance between stations on the main line is 6.85 kilometers, of which the maximum station distance is 15.78 kilometers (Xiayan Road Station to Dongda Highway Station). The minimum station distance is 3.44 kilometers (Lingang Comprehensive Area Station to Lingang Open Area Station).
The underground section tunnels of the line will be constructed by the shield method and are divided into single-hole double-track tunnels and single-hole single-track tunnels. The single-hole double-track tunnel is from T3 Terminal Station to Xiayan Road Station, and the single-hole single-track tunnel is from Dongda Highway Station to Lingang Comprehensive Area Station, and Lingang Comprehensive Area Station to Lingang Open Area Station.
The Xiayan Road Station of the Nanhui Branch Line (Lianggang Municipal Railway), which started construction on January 4, is located in the NHSG-1 bid, which mainly includes the T3 Terminal Station to Xiayan Road Station civil works and construction of the main and auxiliary structures of Xiayan Road Station, working wells, shield tunnel sections, open cut sections, subgrade sections, elevated sections and other projects. The shield tunnel section of this project has a total length of 1025 meters. It will be excavated by a super-diameter mud-water-gas balance shield machine with a diameter of 14.05 meters, and a single-line double-hole structure will be formed in one excavation. This section will pass through a series of buildings such as S32 elevated, paddock river, airport connection line, rainwater tank culvert and integrated pipe gallery.
The Nanhui branch line and the airport connection line will be operated at the T3 terminal station. It is planned to adopt the transportation organization mode combining the large-station express train and the station-stop train, with a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The main nodes of the special area should reach the Pudong hub traffic circle in 15 minutes and reach the Hongqiao hub in 60 minutes. The total construction period of the line is 4 years.
The Nanhui branch line is an important urban railway to strengthen the rapid communication between the Lingang Special Area and the central urban area of Shanghai. It can quickly connect the Lingang Special Area and the two comprehensive transportation hubs of Pudong and Hongqiao. It is of great significance for the development of the special area, the construction of a new city and the better integration of the Lingang into the integrated high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta.
