Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a response to the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Communications and the Management Committee of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone Lingang Special Area. After approving Shanghai to launch a pilot project for dedicated Internet data channels, another important new type of information and communication infrastructure at the national level has landed in Shanghai. It is another solid step towards Shanghai’s creation of an urban digital base for the Internet of Things, Data Connections, and Smart Connections.
As an important exploration in the evolution and upgrading of the country’s Internet architecture, the new type of Internet switching center has effectively improved the access experience of enterprise networks and pipe networks through the “one-point access, multi-point connectivity” network access method. While reducing the cost of network access and improving the quality of network interconnection, it promotes the integration and innovation of digital applications through the interconnection and aggregation of data in the switching center.
In the future, industrial control, high-frequency financial transactions and other services that are sensitive to network delays, multi-cloud collaboration, cloud-side collaboration, and integrated networking services, short video, 4K/8K high-definition video, VR/AR and other real-time traffic are all available. The goal is to realize he integration of business in the switching center, and fully empower the integration and development of digitalization and the real economy.
The new Internet exchange center is located in the Lingang Special Area, which will fully enjoy the advantages of the special area as a “test ground” for national institutional innovation. It will carry out beneficial explorations in terms of operation mode, business model, and supporting guarantees, which reflects the pilot project of Shanghai’s new Internet Exchange Center’s innovative features. Especially in terms of business model, the Shanghai pilot will fully integrate with the International Dataport and Industrial Internet, and further explore through the integration and intercommunication with new infrastructure such as Internet data dedicated channels, 5G industry virtual private networks, and industrial Internet identification analysis systems. For interconnected innovation business, the Lingang Special Area will serve as an important link between the domestic and international markets.
The next step for Shanghai, in accordance with the approval requirements of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, is to make solid preparations for the formal operation of the Shanghai pilot, promote the establishment and operation of the new Internet Exchange Center and explore the innovative features. Efforts will be made to complete the pilot tasks assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to Shanghai to undertake the important task of implementing a greater degree of stress tests in the Lingang Special Area and to build a solid digital base for realizing Shanghai’s comprehensive digital transformation.
